th Graders Go To Santa Cruz Beach BoardwalkOn Friday, May 24, all eligible 8
th grade students are invited to attend the field trip to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Students will need to bring extra money for snacks and souvenirs. Bringing IPODS,IPADS and CD players is discouraged. However, if students choose to bring these items, the school is not responsible for the loss or theft. No items are allowed to be left on the bus during the day. Students will need to be at school that morning no later than 8:30 a.m. to report to their homerooms to watch video bulletin and take roll. The buses will leave the middle school at 9:30 a.m. sharp and will return the students to the middle school at 5:30 p.m. PLEASE BE AVAILABLE to pick up your student promptly so that the adult chaperones do not need to wait for you to arrive.For those students who are not going on this field trip, it is a regular school day and they should plan on being at school at the usual time. They will follow an alternate class schedule.
PROMOTION INFORMATION
1: The ceremony for promoting 8
th graders will be held from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30th in the Auditorium. All promoting 8th graders, and up to four family members, may attend. See below for ticket information. Students are expected to dress up.2: Dress code for Promotion: Girls
should wear dresses in good taste with sleeves or straps. Long dresses should not be longer than ankle length. Short dresses should not be shorter than three inches above the knee. Spaghetti straps or strapless dresses must be covered with a sweater or wrap for the promotion ceremony. If heels are worn, they should be comfortable and girls should bring them to at least one promotion practice to get used to walking in them down the aisle and up the stairs or ramp to the stage. Boys should wear nice slacks and a dress shirt with a collar. An optional sweater, tie and/or jacket would be appropriate, but not a tuxedo. Athletic type shoes are discouraged.IMPORTANT NOTE: Premier Studios of California will be taking professional photographs at the ceremony. We will send flyers home with 8

4: The Promotion Dance
will begin at 8:00 p.m. Seventh graders who are being promoted may attend the dance if they wish. They will be admitted to the gym at 8:20 p.m. The dance is over at 10:00 p.m. PLEASE PICK UP YOUR STUDENT AT 10:00 PM SHARP! 2May 28:

In Period 2 Homeroom, 8th graders will be given 4 tickets for the Promotion ceremony. If your family requires more tickets, you may call the office. If you don’t need all 4 tickets, return those to the office for re-distribution. Extra tickets should be picked up by an adult, if tickets are lost they cannot be replaced. The extra tickets will be available for pick up beginning Tuesday May 28. We can only issue a limited number of tickets to comply with fire laws. There is no standing in the auditorium for the ceremony.If you require special seating (wheelchair access or interpreter) please call the office. May 29:

6 th and 7th grade yearbook distribution during lunch only in Room 26. Sharpies are not allowed.May 30:
th graders will rehearse their final Promotion ceremony practice during periods 6 and 7. Please make every effort to ensure that your student is in school at that time. It is a regular Thursday bell schedule for students and school will dismiss at 2 pm.

For the Promotion Ceremony, 8th graders should arrive at school by 5:30 p.m. and report as follows: A-L to Room 28 upstairs. M-Z to Room 13 downstairs. They will line up in the order they walk down the aisle. The ceremony lasts about one hour. Afterwards there is time for photos and congratulations.The Promotion Dance begins promptly at 8 p.m. This year it will be held in the middle school gym. Parents are invited in for the first 15 – 20 minutes to see the gym in all its splendor and to dance the first dance with their new 9th grader. Families and friends will then be asked to leave so the party can commence. The dance is over at 10 p. m. Please be prompt in picking up your student.May 31:
The last day of school
8 th graders get to sleep in and report to school at 9:30 a.m. They will wait in front of the school until everyone has arrived. The entire class will assemble, Roll will be taken and they will walk down to Caledonia Park for the year-end party where the PTSA will have Pancakes in the Park and organized games. Students will be dismissed from the park at 12:11 as this last day of school is a minimum day.The 6 th and 7th graders should arrive at school at 8:30 a.m. NO FIRST PERIOD CLASSES WILL BE HELD. They will attend their regular classes on the minimum day schedule. At 11:10 the students will go out to the athletic field for games and activities. School will be dismissed at 12:11 p.m. for the summer
